Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Tradieprofile collects, why, and what you can do about it. Tradieprofile is the controller of this information. For anything about your data, email hello@tradieprofile.com.

What we collect

If you have a tradie profile

• Your email address, business name, trade and area, and your password if you set one (stored scrambled, never in plain text)
• What you add to your page: about text, services, photos, logo and phone number
• The work you book and manage in Tradieprofile

If you ask a trade for a quote

• Your name, phone or email, postcode, and your message

If you leave a review

• Your name, your email address, and what you write. Your name and review are shown publicly; your email address is not.

When you use the site

• A login cookie while you’re logged in (see the cookie policy), and short-lived records of login attempts and review submissions so we can stop abuse. These use a scrambled form of your email or IP address, not the address itself.

Why we use it

• To run your account and show your page (to provide the service you signed up for)
• To pass quote requests and reviews to the trade you sent them to (because you asked us to)
• To confirm reviews and to stop spam, fake reviews and break-ins (our legitimate interest in keeping Tradieprofile trustworthy)
• To send emails you need, such as login links, quote requests and booking updates
• To find trades near you: a town or postcode you search for (or a trade enters as where they’re based) is sent to postcodes.io, a free UK service, to find it on the map. Nothing else about you is sent.
• If you pay a trade by card through Tradieprofile, to email you a link to review them, and to mark your review as from a verified customer (because you asked us to process the payment)
• To show trades how many people visit their page, where from (the referring site, country and type of device) and how many tap to call (our legitimate interest in showing trades how their page is doing). We do this without cookies and never store your IP address: each visit gets a code that changes every day, so we can’t tell it’s you or follow you between days.

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

• The trade you send a quote request or review to
• Cloudflare, which hosts Tradieprofile, stores its data and sends its emails
• Google Fonts, which serves the site’s font and so sees your IP address

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, under safeguards the law requires.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and page until you delete them in Account settings, which deletes them straight away. Quote requests, bookings and reviews are kept with the trade’s account and deleted with it. Login and abuse records are short-lived and cleared out automatically.

When a free trial starts, we keep a scrambled code made from your email address and one from your card (not the card number), even after the account is deleted. They can’t be turned back into either, and are only used to make sure each person gets one free trial.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or object to how we use it. Email us and we’ll reply within a month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
